Have you heard the rumors about Google allowing large banner ads for certain advertisers? Well, at this point they’re not so much rumors. According to various blogs, Google is experimenting with large banner advertising with at least 30 advertisers. All despite the fact that in December of 2005 Marissa Mayer, then “VP of Search Products & User Experience” and now at Yahoo, made the following comment.
There will be no banner ads on the Google homepage or web search results pages. There will not be crazy, flashy, graphical doodads flying and popping up all over the Google site. Ever.
We suppose that banner ads are up for interpretation as “graphical doodads,” but some frustration amongst users is understandable. What do you think?
